Mixed Media Tag.

Hello Everyone,
Thought I would join in the challenge at 'That Craft Place' -Tags.
I don't often make Tags, but these little love birds lent themselves to this sort of creation; they are rather cute...I don't often do cute either!

Let us start with the background.
Making the Tag with a SB diecut.

 Painted up with Acrylics.
I stamped the birds in Black Archival Ink , then painted and dry embossed the Bg.
Added some stitching for interest.
Here is a close up view.

adding more texture to the Bg, but did not like it.
Changed it to this.
Now it is finished.

It is wet and cold today in Auckland, thanks for the visit and all the lovely comments you leave me I do appreciate each one.
Have a great week,
Smiles:)

Sunrise, Sunset take your pick.

Hello Everyone,
My second make for Country View Crafts  Challenge on the 'Simple Scenic' theme is a painted sunrise or sunset, which ever you prefer.

This is my substrate on card stock that first had one coat of gesso.
Heavy body Acrylics in strong colours.
Do not imagine that this was a quick flick of the brush and I knew where I was going....no no my friends, the only part that I actually put a little thought into was the Sun area.
It took all my will power not to paint over it.

My silhouette was printed out, then painted in Black and fussy cut.

Distressing the edges to match the rough quality of my painting.

Do not underestimate how my creative outlet has been compromised enormously on this piece, to feel the need to complete and perfect as I want to do by adding another layer or two.

What have I learnt?
It is not always favourable to include unnecessary elements/layers to a creation if it can stand alone on design and good composition.
My main image evokes the feeling of the scene, the palette signifies the time and atmosphere.
I have told my story, I have set my scene, nothing else is required.

Phew, what a journey, I would not have realised when I made this piece how my outlook on design has sharpened up.

You have until the end of the month to join in this Challenge.

Have a great week.
Smiles:)

The Tea Bag Vintage Garden.

Hello Everyone,
If you are inclined towards Mixed Media then you will want to participate in the inaugural Challenge of Anything But Cute.
The Design Team has provided wonderful inspiration  hopefully you newbies do not find it too intimidating.
I know when I first ventured into Mixed Media I held back, even though I was itching to participate; the fear of failure and lack of confidence was ever present in the beginning, however, I did enter the Challenges and although I was not always a winner I did receive some positive comments on my work, and this was enough of an encouragement.
So if you are cogitating at the moment, make something and enter these interesting Challenges, you will feel very pleased with yourself once it is done.

The Theme for the Challenge at Anything But Cute- Vintage Garden
First take note of the background, I have used old dried up Tea bags. (don't you think it looks like bark?) I glued them together to make this odd shape, I stamped and wet embossed on top.

This is a wall hanging, and you are going to be very unhappy with me as I have no step by step, I did not want to stop in case I lost my way, sometimes the creative process takes precedent over everything else.
I will go through the steps for you, there is nothing too difficult involved.
I picked out some fibres, laces, trims, seed beads, organza, and stitched randomly in place.

The little flowers were also cut from Tea Bags using the TH Tattered Florals die cut.
I burnt the edges of the Tea Bags.

My main flower is made from organza which I first stitched with metallic thread then diecut.

The butterfly fussy cut out of inked cardstock, and embellished with a glass bead and a metal antennae. You can see the embossing on the Bg; I used mustard seed distress embossing powder.

And there you have it my Vintage Garden.
I have not decided how to hang this creation as yet, here it is on a dark Bg.

Have a great week, and thanks for visiting.
Smiles:)

Purple, Pink and Yellow

Hello Everyone,
I have a little piece for your perusal and also to enter a few Challenges, the law of averages won out this week and I actually won over at Rubber Dance with my Poppy Card (here) I was so surprised, but also delighted,  I am like many of you that religiously enter Challenges and 99% of the time miss out... but not this month, this month I can experience that awesome feeling of being a winner, thank you Rubber Dance you made my day,  I now feel I am doing okay here in my craft room.

So the Challenges that I would like to enter are:

Optional theme of Flowers.

The Background is a grid made from painted papers and where I have stamped various patterns.
The top layer  is also wet embossed in Black and Gold embossing powders.

The flower is in the process of being manipulated,  it is cut from painted cardstock.
Stamped the bird and  fussycut
Attached the finished flower and Bird.

Burlap and embossed Bg.

It is a wet forecast for the weekend here in Auckland, hope it is better where you are.
Thanks for the visit.
Smiles:)

Triptych - Houses

Hello everyone,
The Mirror Crack'd Challenge this month is hosted by the talented Rita Marie and the theme is 'Triptych.'

I loved making this canvas, the little houses were so much fun to put together.
The substrate on the canvas is stamped tissue paper with Gesso and glazed over in Raw umber and Nickel Azo Gold.

The second substrate is a wash of watercolours.
Base for my houses.
The roof templates painted in Black Acrylic.
The painted fabric with scraps of cardstock for windows and doors.
Adding more depth and stitching.
Rusting up the elements.
Adding the trim and the fence lines.
Gold paint to the roof.
close up.
Completed the canvas and finally adding embossing paste through a script stencil.
There are wonderful creations on this theme over on the TMC Blog.
Hope you can participate in this Challenge this month with us.

Entering these Challenges.
Love To Create Challenge:Anything Creative/Mixed Media Goes.

Have a great week
