You make me Smile

It has been a Public holiday today in Auckland; Anniversary Day, we celebrate the arrival of William Hobson the first Governor of New Zealand.
There are fireworks on the Harbour at night, and also there is a huge flotilla of sailing craft, tug boats, and dragon boats, basically anything that can float, it is a wonderful sight.

I did not venture down into the city this time, I preferred to stay at home and make a card, it is a case of been there done that scenario.
If you don't know already but Dawn of Dawns world is a fellow card-maker friend. We spent the afternoon together last Friday and I made up some of my watercolour paper, I gave some to her and we decided to challenge each other on how to best use the paper, you can see Dawn's card here.

This is my card using the paper.

I stamped over the background in aged mahogany. (DI)
Cricut the bird out of the same paper and covered it in Glossy Accents.

Hope you are having a good day.

Fluttering by.....

Friday the end of the working week! (well for some of us.)
I am one of the lucky people who do not have to get up in the mornings and head off into the traffic and do a days work for somebody else!!!!!
Thank goodness those days are over but I have to admit at the time, when I had to give up nursing I was a little apprehensive.
But I am ever optimistic and firmly believe that when one door closes another opens.
It took awhile, but one opened into Blogland.
So now I hop on the Computer everyday, at a time of my own choosing, it is great.
If this had not happened. YOU  lovely people out there would not have the benefit of seeing my creations.
(the Good and the Bad!!)

So for today's card.
I took a few pictures to make it interesting for you so that you do not become bored with just looking at a card on it's own.
I thought I would tease you a little!
Plus it has the added benefit of you really seeing what the elements actually look like close up.
I am leaving myself wide open here for criticism, but that is okay, constructive criticism I can do, no problem go for it!!

                                                 THE FLOWER

                                                THE BUTTERFLY'S

THE CARD

I made the background paper using watercolours, these are my favourite colours.
I do not always succeed  with the effect I want, but I do like this paper.
Any questions on the card please do not hesitate to ask.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Valentine Tag

This weeks Tag Challenge with Louise over at Kard Krazy is Valentines.

Here in New Zealand we do not make a great deal about Valentines Day, even though the population has been made up of immigrants from many countries since Captain Cook planted the British Flag, but it has never taken off.
I would suggest it is because KIWI guys are the least romantic I have ever come across. (apart from the Aussies who are on a par!)
I am generalising to the extreme probably, as my dear Rob is very romantic, and he is a True Blue; A colloquialism for being totally a New Zealander.
The term is commonly used in Australia but the origin is from England and means steadfast.
Goodness went off on a tangent then, what a load of useless information that was!!!!

Back to the Tag, I made it simple but with enough elements to create interest.

Background, hearts and letters have been cut out on the Cricut using the paper I painted up yesterday, then I covered them in Glossy Accents.
It is only 4 by 2 ins so looks quite cute.
Hope you are having a great DAY.

Love, Love, Love.

It is a beautiful day in Auckland today, but I am not making the most of it as I am really busy painting papers and gorging myself on creativity.
(now is this a Simile?).
If you have looked at Evelyn's Blog and her "PEACE" card, check out the comments, and learn about!! "Visual Onomatopoeia."
 (Apologies I am being facetious).
Evelyn was a High School Teacher perhaps that encourages one to think outside the box when describing a card differently.
It certainly piqued my interest.

I wanted to make a card a little bit different, but using my favourite elements.
This is what I created.

Dimensional Pearls and Acrylics.
Hand made Rose.
Stitching.

Had fun making this.

Wedgewood Blue

I must be having a blue month (metaphorically speaking) as all except one card that I have made since Christmas has had Blue tones. I have made a little card which I made the flower the focus.  The Frame stamp by jemac (australia) has been heat embossed with white embossing powder, and as soon as I saw the effect on the light blue background it reminded me of Wedgewood Blue Pottery.
Hence the title.

It oozes softness, so I just kept it quiet, (unlike me) and stamped a short sentiment,
I could not resist a flourish.
The Flower:
CS painted in blue tones with Distress inks.
Then cut into 5 different sizes with cricut.
Clear embossed about three times to create the shine.
Placed some stiff ribbon between the petals for some interest.
Edged everything with weathered wood Distress ink.
One of few cards that I have made in a quick time period, about 4 hours.
(I can hear you gasp!) This is real fast for me.

It is soo hot here in Auckland I am expiring!!!!!!!
It is 7.30 in the evening.

With Love Card

Everyone is slowly but surely getting back into the swing of producing wonderful cards after the Christmas holiday, and the work that is being posted is quite inspiring.
I managed to make one in between the outings.
(family visiting from Wales).
They are having a wonderful time, the weather unlike Australia is fantastic, they have been very fortunate to have left Australia before the floods happened.

This card I will enter into the dutchdare-card challenge All stitched Up.

Cricut made the hearts, flourish and petals for flower.
Machine stitch around background.
Hand stitch around heart.
Distressed and inked background.

I am not sure whether I like it!
It has not had the LOVE over it that I usually provide to my work, so it is a little disappointing to me in that respect, but, I have made a card, I will have to accept that I cannot produce a perfect one every time!

Fabric element Tag

Once again Tag Tuesday has come around, Louise has asked us to use some fabric, this was music to my ears, as I love working with fabric.
Any way this is what I designed for the Challenge.

I cut out four heart shapes all different sizes.
Stamped a flower image in white on one of them and embossed dots on another.
Made a flourish, and placed some pearls on top.
The flower is sitting on organza.
WORM, BUMBLE BEE, and BUTTERFLY are all out of 100% cotton fabric.
And of course I had to do some stitching!

Hope you are having a good day, we have heard about the terrible shooting in Tucson. This tragedy is becoming all to familiar and it saddens me no end.
Closer to home in Queensland Australia, they are having catastrophic flooding, many people are now missing. I really wish I had some good news!

Family here who are on a visit are having a wonderful time, big family dinner tonight, so I had better finish now!

Magical Fairy Card

Hello Everyone
Today I managed to make a card as visitors went up North for a couple of days, so it has given me time to catch up and create a piece of magic!

By the way I am enjoying having my family here from Wales.

I have entered this card into two challenges.
Just add ink # 50 Colour challenge.
Bah! Humbug! Challenge#1 Holly and Fairies.

The papers are Once upon a Springtime Collection.
Text CG,

Close up of Fairy which is an image off the web and cut out.
Shaped Dye cut I did with my Cricut.

Butterfly card

Well I actually finished a card, before visitors arrive I have been flat out all day as I made the Tag as well out of the left overs (as you can tell). I wanted to put it into the
Kaboodle Doodles Challenge #48"Anything Goes"

I am into butterflys at the moment!
I made some background paper, out of distress inks.
SB Butterfly.
Stamped my new flourish in Tea dye.
The rest is self explanatory I think by the picture.
I have got to tidy up my craft room now, as I do not think I will be in here for awhile.

But if there is anything you would like to know please ask me
Have a great week.

Mosaic TAG

This is my take on the Mosaic Tag, that is this Tuesdays Challenge at Kard Krazy.

I cut up the squares then stuck them on the oval shape, re cut the oval, backed with another oval which I cut with my cricut, my mosaic does not stand out that well!
There is a circle in the middle, I placed a flourish on top and added the butterfly's to sit on this.
You can see distress ink, weathered wood randomly stamped over the blue paper.
