Monochromatic Doily.

Hello to you all.
I do hope your Christmas festivities were enjoyable and you had many crafty presents, I had some I am pleased to say.
We had a lovely day, the weather was warm so we ate out on the Patio.
I cannot believe Christmas is over and 2012 beckons.

One of my presents that I received from my daughter was the TH 'On the Edge' distressed doily Die, and I was impatient to create a card with it.

I found some PP in my stash and some purple CS, so I cut twice and used the purple CS as a shadow effect to the PP.

Purple is a glorious colour, it is sensual and spiritual--------and has a certain sense of daring, the lavender is the softer side of this hue, it brings a delicacy and refinement to any creation, and the colour lavender suggests something unique.
Using White as my accent gives a pristine contrast,  (warm and cool tones).

The PP had a flower design imprinted on the bottom, so I fussy cut them out and mounted them onto my Bg and also spotlighted one onto my Spellbinders  'Floral  Doily'.

I cut two circles with SB and inked them up with dusty concord and stormy sky  and mounted the flower outside the frame.

The flourish was stamped with aged mahogany distress ink.
I also used dimensional tape to raise one of the little flowers.
And to finish it all off a lavender bow and sequins.

I was inspired...

Hello Everyone
I was inspired by Jill Foster (PB&J) on Monday with her latest video here.
I loved the colours she used, and I immediately had this idea that popped into my head, which happens when I am relaxed, as I was yesterday.
I know I said I was not doing any more creating until after Christmas, well I lied........but it was only a little lie nothing too awful.
I just had to sit at my craft table and satisfy my stimulated senses after watching her video, and when you think about it, this is the main reason Jill produces these video instalments, so that people like me can make an excuse to make something beautiful.

The first Noel....meaning the first birthday and is an alternate word for Christmas.

The word was typed and cut on my Cricut.
And like Jill I used distress stains;
fired brick, wild honey, peeled paint, broken china and finally dusty concord.

I distressed the background exactly the same, then I dry embossed using two different folders.

My sentiment  was coloured using the distress inks.
Numbers were cut on patterned paper then glossy accents applied.
I had to embellish a little, even though I know it probably would have held up with out any.

I do think that is me for now but don't be surprised if it is not!

Last Tag ' Funkie Style'

Hello Everyone.
Well I have made my last Tag for
Challenge: 12 Tags of Christmas - Funkie Junkie Style
13 weeks ago Linda started this Challenge and it has been awe-inspiring to see every ones creations. This is Linda's  #12  Tag and also the last in the Challenge,  there will  be a random draw for a winner on Dec 16th.

I had every intention of casing this Tag as it is so Shabby-Chic, but as is usual, my hands were autonomous to the brain again!
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-02kdVJtXFL4/TtXXARLPtuI/AAAAAAAAIEI/5sAV0BzfjHY/s1600/lcoughlin.tag12.11.30.11.jpg The bird cage was my inspiration and the Colour Gold, which imbues so much richness and warmth to any piece of art was the starting point,

I wanted to recreate this effect in my Tag.
My birdcage was  stained with fired brick, then embossed with gold ep. A pearl and some bling sits at the top.
The Cherub has had his share of Gold applied too, I added some distress powder for his hair and wings, he looked a little flat until I gave him some. (does the Cherub have hair?)
My diecuts were cut on the cricut using the' fancy frames' cartridge.

I have stained them all in various ways; fired brick, faded jeans and antique linen, and the bg behind the birdcage is a G45 cast off of some children.

The Holly leaves have been fussy-cut and red bling for the berries, and of course my handmade flower made from red CS.
My sentiment was also lying on my desk, I titivated around the edges so it would blend in.

And lastly a TH chain tassel to complete the composition of the piece.
There is a sprinkling of glitter on the top frame but I was not able to pick it up in the photo.

I wanted this LAST Tag of mine to be an acknowledgement of how far I have come in my craft.
My approach to making Cards/Tags today is far different to 12 months ago, and it is all due to the generous and talented people who share their ideas here in this forum that I have to thank.
So Thank you all.
Linda is only one of these special people,  if I could inspire just one person through what I am doing today I will be very happy, because to create for me is to achieve fulfilment of my hopes and dreams.
There is a bonus to this blogging that I was not aware of when I started and that is the wonderful  virtual friends I have made.
I hope you like this Tag.

I tried to upload all 12 tags that I have made all together, but I am unable to do it!!

Have a great day.
Smiles:)

Red + White + Emboss

Hello Everyone
I posted off my Christmas Cards today, and next weekend will be the trimming of the Tree, I am beginning to feel Festive and looking forward to celebrating the Day.

Penny Black Saturday Challenge...Week 179

Christmas + Red + Embossing.

Red is my favourite colour to wear and it also makes for a striking card.

It is the Christmas Colour even though there are various hues.

Did you know that red is the highest arc in the rainbow, and it is one of the oldest colour names, it is a sensational colour, and has the greatest emotional impact of all the Palettes.

I chose the  PB flower from the "to you"set. (30-067).  The Flower was going to be my main focal point of the card so I made this first. On White CS I randomly daubed Barn door distress stain, then I embossed the image x3 using White Diamond EP.

Then I fussy cut ALL layers.

Layer 1- cut just around the flower.

Layer 2 -  cut each individual petals and attached with dimensional dots.

Layer 3- cut the inner petals and scrunched them up.

Layer 4- cut around the centre.

The leaf is a fern stamp that I clear embossed and applied  frayed burlap distress powder and Distress crackle paint -old paper.

The fancy frame has been cut on the Cricut. I added some brilliant gemstones to the bottom trim, and the sentiment I found amongst cast-offs on my desk,

And as I stated at the beginning of the post, the colour is striking and dramatic, and it increases your heart rate because it is so stimulating.

This is why it is the colour of love!

Don't you agree?

I am also entering this card into 'a bit of Bling' #43.

'Less is More': Challenge:  because Rosie said I should, and although I am not a diva in this Genre, she is, and I must take her advice! and while I am here I must add that we both received honourable mentions at the  The Shabby Tea Room for our cards, if you want to see them look for the numbers 23 (me) and 33 (Rosie). You will notice immediately why I am so Shabby and Rosie is so CAS!

This card has great  Clean Lines, but as you all know I abhor the word Simple in CAS and prefer Stunning, so here is my Clean and Stunning.

Thanks Rosie, I do think it is a little fussy for a true representation of CAS but we will see........

Hope you are having a great day, thanks for looking.

Smiles:)

Green, the Colour of Balance.

Hello Everyone
Green is a safe colour, if you don't know what colour to use anywhere use Green.
The meaning of Green
  • a new state of balance
  • feel a need for change or growth
  • protection from fears and anxieties especially when connected with the demands of others.
The symbolism of the Fir tree - Clarity, Achievement, Energy.

 Green and Trees

I responded eagerly and excitedly as it is a great colour to work with for all the above reasons.
The Fir Tree image is one that I am drawn to since purchasing the PB 'winter wonders' clear set. You will notice the versatility of the image by the way I have used them on  previous projects.

BG is Hero Arts  'Artistic Circles
OverlaidwithPennyBlack'Music Background'
Die cut trim border (cricut)
'JOY' sentiment Penny Black from the same set.
The two toned effect of the tree was achieved by stamping two images; one on white CS and the other on coloured CS. I then fussy cut around the images to  conjoin  the opposites.

Stickles and bits for the trim on tree to add some sparkle.
The little gems are from Crimson Cloud, (part of my prize) they were little devils to work with, but obviously the green palette was doing it's 'job' as I propitiously adhere them, and not one imprecated word was heard at any time during this process!!!!!

Inks used were all Distress -
peeled paint.
shabby shutters.
forest green.
worn lipstick (accent)

I am now balanced, I have achieved  and with some luck I would have grown creatively!
Three cheers for glorious, gratifying, gorgeous Green.

If you are low, make a GREEN CARD!
Have a great week
Smiles:)

It's Shabby not Funkie for #10 Tag

It is the last day of the week, and I am looking forward to the weekend as it is Stamp Group tomorrow. I spend most of the time there talking and fluffing around than being productive, but it does not matter because I enjoy the day/evening, catching up with some friends who love to make cards.
So onto Funkie Junkie #10 Challenge and Linda made a really beautiful one this week, I got so excited when I saw it, I had to make myself a cuppa to calm my exuberance.
I had a plethora of ideas flooding my brain that I was feeling quite light-headed for awhile.

I will start with the BG as it is a collage of different scraps of paper....
that you can't see!!!!!!
But trust me I glued them all down and then applied Gesso to merge and soften the edges.
I embossed a snowflake design and painted over with iridescent medium, I stamped a holly design down the bottom of the Tag,  it is the little black bits, and also stuck some mesh  (which again you can't see!) doing well so far am I not!!! Ha.

What you can see is my stitching,  bling flourish,  my seam binding /CS Flower, which is meant to be a Christmas Rose, and a little lace at the very bottom.
The sentiment is Graphic 45 paper.

There is a new tag each Wednesday until we complete all 12 tags.  You are challenged to find at least one thing on her tag that will inspire you. Well I picked up lots, the mesh, embossing, music paper, seam binding etc etc.

This is Linda's Tag#10

Had a great time making this one, thanks heaps Linda.

                                                 Have a great weekend everyone,
                                                                Smiles:)

Swinging around.

Hello Everyone.
I learnt something today after reading Rosie's  post; that there are Super Women in the card making world.  Her words, and I quote 'I didn't think it would take me all afternoon' !   perplexed me.
An illusion presented itself in my mind in an abnormal manner, I became prostrate on the floor with vexation  when I read these words. I forgot to add that she was making dinner as well!!

The discomfiture was only temporary however, as I soon realised that Rosie is a Diva that I could never match, so once that was sorted I proceeded in my measured way, and now I am posting up my card that took me three days to make!!!!!!!!!! (No comments please, unless they are constructive, my ego can't take another hit today.)

I stamped twice once on white CS and once on PP. I fussy cut the body and coloured with distress inks, I free hand cut the holly leaves.

I used the cricut for the die cuts using Graphic45 (Christmas Emporium Collection).
I added the coloured wool thread to give the impression of a swing and holding on for dear life!
No sewing on the card, but to my mind it needs it, I scored and distressed the edges instead. This card is a 6x4 and not bulky one of three of an order, they are being posted to the UK.

This is the sketch I followed, sponsored once again by Craft Spot by Kimberly.
Card Patterns: Sketch #40
I hope I have not veered too far away from the design, I have all the elements, oh well it was a great sketch to work.

And the other Challenge is one of my favourites:

Fools Gold Tag # 9.

 Hello Everyone,

I used a Holly Flourish which I cut twice on the cricut, I coloured up the smaller one in peeled paint distress inks and applied glossy accents.
'Joy' rub-on.

And the star elements I coloured up in gold.
The PP is a Penny Black.

Have a great weekend and keep safe.
Smiles:)

I am so thankful you have visited me today.

Tag #8

Hello Everyone,
This is #8 Tag that I am posting up for the Funkie Junkie style 12 Tags of Christmas challenge.

I did make a flower!

But I was not able to use it anywhere on this Tag, my method of creating is very precarious
to say the least.
I never know what the finished Card/Tag is going to look like, there are no preconceived images in my mind. I sit down and I create, this is what I love, I may have a colour/image/sketch/paper that I pick up and I just go where it takes me.
It works most of the time...
My problem is I don't always know when to quit!
So to be inspired and then follow through can only be good for me.
I am enjoying this Challenge.

I used a diecut frame as Linda had a gorgeous embellishment on hers at the bottom.
I wanted a vintage look, so I inked up the frame with walnut stain and added some Gold.
My FC image is Inkadinkado. I stamped image twice, and fussy cut the hat, bobble and trim to create dimension.
Die Cut a circle and and some ovals, and layered it up.
Finished off with some Bling.

This is the result.....
It is the weekend already, so I hope you all have a good one and keep safe.
Smiles:)

I am so thankful you have visited me today.

Week #6 Tags Challenge (funkie junkie)

 Hello Everyone.
I am into my 6th creation so we are halfway through the Challenge, if you want to join in, there is still plenty of time.  You can complete the 12 tags in any order at any time.
The inspirational Tag of Linda's was just gorgeous.
I curtailed my urgings to go off on a tangent (I become so excited that I have so many things going on in my head that they sometimes become  jumbled!) I am quite normal I think, for a person who has a creative mind, it is the process that is letting me down; the mind is far too active for my physical abilities, and by the time I do get around to organising the plan I have forgotten half of what I thought of in the first instance!!!!!
Now I am convinced that this happens to many of us..........It does, I know it does, it does doesn't?

Oh well, what will be will be...........

The Tag measures 4ins by 2ins.
BG stamped with Antique linen Distress inks,
I have embossed the music in Egyptian Gold EP.

The technique of triple gold embossing on cupid and the Holly, and then adding red embossing tinsel before drying, creates a thick texture and dimension.
Linda used this technique on her Heart then stamped the 25 while still hot.

You can view her Tag below.
Linda's Inspiration

You just have to have all 12 entered by December 15th if you want to be in the random prize drawing at the end.  And what's the prize?  Your choice of a $25 shop at Linda's Etsy Boutique or one of my pieces of artwork - maybe even one of my Christmas tag triptychs.

The weekend is upon us, and I am so excited as it is semi-finals time for the Rugby World Cup, we have to beat Australia now, and Wales could be our opponents if they beat France, oh it would be great if it was All Black - Wales final.

I am so thankful you have visited me today.

An inspiration challenge.

Hello everyone.
First the update on the Rugby
The All Blacks won their first game, but unfortunately Wales lost theirs by one point. The USA lost as well!

Today I want to tell you about What Linda is doing over at The Funkie Junkie.
Each week, she will post a tag ( for 12 weeks) and you will use it to inspire yourself to make something.  You can enter any sort of craft.  It can be a tag, a card, a home decor project, a scrapbook layout - your choice.  It sounded great to me so I have decided to participate, if you are interested join in I think it will be very inspiring.
When I saw Linda's Tag which is absolutely stunning.(see below), I loved how she made the 25 a focal point, so I made my number first, always having the 25 as the centre piece, and this is what I finished up with.

 This is my entry for

Week One: at the Funkie Junkie

      This is Linda's inspiration Tag

Linda has chosen the earth palette which radiates a warmth, whereas I have gone for the  traditional colours; just like a bag of confetti which has been thrown into the air and landed randomly, but also  punctuated with deeper accents for contrast.

I am also entering my card into Make It Monday.

Thanks for looking.
Smiles:)

A re-worked cast-off!!

Hello Everyone
Remember  I said I had a number of disasters when I did the LIM one layer Challenge last week, well I did not throw everything away! I found this stray image on my desk, and thought it could be re-worked into a card.

So I feel some satisfaction that all my frustrations of last week have dissipated and I have something positive to show for it.

First a close look at my butterfly.

Penny Black Saturday Challenge #165 is 'Shabby Chic'. (I had to enter a challenge that has this theme!!) I think the flower is the main focal point and the sentiment secondary, I hope so as the card will be kicked off expeditiously no doubt. OH well, it is a card that I saved from the bin and it was great fun seeing it come together so well.

                                                            The reconstructed card

The stamp is Penny Black ' Blush' 2666K it is one I have used so many times.
Everything has been distressed as you can see.
HA sentiment CL493.

JUGS Challenge #98 "Colour."

Make it Monday #51 sponsored by......

Thanks for dropping in, I hope you all have a productive week.

In my comfort Zone...

Hello Everyone.
First thank you all for such wonderful comments on my last two posts.
I really appreciate every-one of them.

No tortuous post today you will be pleased to know, quite calm and collected now, I have to admit that last card drained me mentally, so I have returned to what I love and that is Shabby with a bit of chic!
I am entering this card  into 4 Challenges....
I was trying to keep up with Rosie and her five this week but I could not manage it!!!

I made my flower made from crinoline and the little buds from coffee liners, to keep within my colour scheme of refreshing /healing green I dyed the silk ribbon.

The first BG layer is a music paper that I smudged over in White paint to soften down the brown. The Butterflies were coloured with shabby shutters and peeled paint as was the BG.

I used white pen for their markings.

I am aware that some people hate green, especially the yellow-greens, I personally like this Verdant Moss hue, to me  it has a happy, cooling, calming effect, just perfect for a get well card.

On a side note I went for my follow-up Xray today, I will know next week if I can take the moon boot off.  I am feeling great in myself, almost back to normal ..........I mean well-balanced it is a much better description, the other has too many definitions for my liking!!!!!

These are the Challenges I have entered:
